The Symbolism of the Tibetan Book of the Dead

Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife (MHAT)

A complete introduction to the cosmology of the Tibetan Buddhist belief system that explores early Tibetan rituals and beliefs, with a detailed study od the symbolism of the mandala of the so called Wrathful deities (representing the manifestations of movement and energy) and Peaceful deities (representing emptiness, that is the primordial purity of human condition), which indivisible union form the primordial nature of the individual.

The exhibition consists of Tibetan scroll paintings (thangka), sculpture and objects from the Namkhai Family Collection and the permanent Collection of the Museum of the Tibetan Art and Culture, in Tuscany, as well as photographs and video from the Shang Shung Institute Archives.
